Why You Need to Find Customers at Ideation Stage

Understand Your Constraints

Imagine this:

You've went through many weeks researching for a great idea for your business.

And then you spend your nights burning the midnight oil, planning that app.

Once you've done that, you learnt how to build your app - and that took a few months.

Only now you start building your app, which would also take a few weeks.

Also, you've spent a few thousand dollars.

And then you go out and search for your customers. But then…

*crickets*

This is a very common scenario to many entrepreneurs. We fall in love with our idea and we believe our idea is the best idea ever. But when we create the app it doesn’t work out.

The reason for this is “The Optimism Bias”. Yes, it’s exactly what you think it is.

Because you want your app to work out, you convince yourself that your idea will work out beyond all doubt. You’ve become too optimistic for your own good and now you overestimate the positive outcomes while underestimating the negative outcomes.

My Mother Won’t Lie to Me

Ah yes, asking those closest to you. This is the easiest way to get answers. But there is a problem. They’re too close to you.

This is called “The Courtesy Bias”. To put it simply - your family and friends wouldn’t want to offend you. They want to love you and support you. So, even if your app is bad, they wouldn’t want to offend you.

They would only give you the “correct” answers. Answers that a supportive friend or a family member would give.

I could go one with many more biases but that is not the point I want to make. I want to tell you the importance of getting a customer at the ideation stage.

Mind Your Precious Resources

At the early stage of your business, you have to two things you need to guard with your life:

Keep in mind of your time - you’ll need to move quickly and get to market. It’s not because there is a competitor behind you but because time cannot be replenished. The time you’ve wasted is not time you can get back. Especially if you’ve wasted months developing an app no one wants.

This is where No-Code tools come in. It saves you so much time. Some simple apps could even be built in a day! It sounds too good to be true but it isn’t once you see them.

Also, keep in mind of your money. Building an app will cost money - a lot of money! But we live in a fortunate time where there is No-Code. No-Code not only enables you to build an app without code - it also keeps your initial costs down!

It helps you to create a minimum viable product. A product that will give your customer the main benefit when they use the app. No-Code tools can create the first version of your dream app.

Recap

You should, no, must find at least one customer at the ideation stage. It will ensure that you are not wasting months of your time and thousands of your hard-earned dollars.
